महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-44, verse-22

तां छित्त्वा समरे कर्णस्त्रिभिर्भारत सायकैः ।
शिखण्डिनमथाविध्यन्नवभिर्निशितैः शरैः ॥२२॥
22. tāṁ chittvā samare karṇastribhirbhārata sāyakaiḥ ,
śikhaṇḍinamathāvidhyannavabhirniśitaiḥ śaraiḥ.
22. tām chittvā samare karṇaḥ tribhiḥ bhārata sāyakaiḥ
śikhaṇḍinam atha avidhyat navabhiḥ niśitaiḥ śaraiḥ
22. O Bharata, Karna, having cut her (Shikhandin's bowstring) in battle with three arrows, then pierced Shikhandin with nine sharp arrows.
