महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-127, verse-39

न युद्धे तात कल्याणं न धर्मार्थौ कुतः सुखम् ।
न चापि विजयो नित्यं मा युद्धे चेत आधिथाः ॥३९॥
39. na yuddhe tāta kalyāṇaṁ na dharmārthau kutaḥ sukham ,
na cāpi vijayo nityaṁ mā yuddhe ceta ādhithāḥ.

na ca api vijayaḥ nityam mā yuddhe cetaḥ ādhitāḥ
39. tāta yuddhe kalyāṇam na,
dharmārthau na,
kutaḥ sukham? ca api vijayaḥ nityam na.

39. My dear (tāta), there is no well-being in war, nor is there adherence to moral duty (dharma) or material gain (artha). From where, then, could happiness come? And victory is not always certain. Do not set your mind on war.
