महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-2, chapter-30, verse-6

प्रियं कर्तुमुपस्थातुं बलिकर्म स्वभावजम् ।
अभिहर्तुं नृपा जग्मुर्नान्यैः कार्यैः पृथक्पृथक् ॥६॥
6. priyaṁ kartumupasthātuṁ balikarma svabhāvajam ,
abhihartuṁ nṛpā jagmurnānyaiḥ kāryaiḥ pṛthakpṛthak.

6. Kings came to perform agreeable services, to present the customary tribute (bali-karma), and to offer taxes; they did not come for any other distinct or separate purposes.
