महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-70, verse-55

एतद्दानं न्यायलब्धं द्विजेभ्यः पात्रे दत्त्वा प्रापयेथाः परीक्ष्य ।
त्वय्याशंसन्त्यमरा मानवाश्च वयं चापि प्रसृते पुण्यशीलाः ॥५५॥
55. etaddānaṁ nyāyalabdhaṁ dvijebhyaḥ; pātre dattvā prāpayethāḥ parīkṣya ,
tvayyāśaṁsantyamarā mānavāśca; vayaṁ cāpi prasṛte puṇyaśīlāḥ.
55. etat dānam nyāyalabdham dvijebhyaḥ
pātre dattvā prāpayethāḥ parīkṣya
tvayi āśaṃsanti amarāḥ mānavāḥ
ca vayam ca api prasṛte puṇyaśīlāḥ

55. After examining worthy recipients (pātra), you should ensure that this lawfully acquired gift is given to deserving brahmins (dvija). Both the immortals and humans, and we too, who are of virtuous character, place our hopes in you concerning this ongoing (ritual).
