महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-318, verse-38

उपर्युपरि लोकस्य सर्वो भवितुमिच्छति ।
यतते च यथाशक्ति न च तद्वर्तते तथा ॥३८॥
38. uparyupari lokasya sarvo bhavitumicchati ,
yatate ca yathāśakti na ca tadvartate tathā.

38. Everyone desires to be superior among people, and he strives according to his capacity, but it does not turn out thus.
