महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-126, verse-40

संश्रुत्य नोपक्रियते परं शक्त्या यथार्हतः ।
सक्ता या सर्वभूतेषु साशा कृशतरी मया ॥४०॥

40. saṁśrutya nopakriyate paraṁ śaktyā yathārhataḥ ,
saktā yā sarvabhūteṣu sāśā kṛśatarī mayā.

40. yā āśā sarvabhūteṣu saktā (asti),

40. The hope (āśā) which is placed in all beings – that a person, having made a promise, will help to the full extent of their ability and as is proper – that very hope has been weakened by me.
