तादृक्सागरवारिराशिवलया द्वीपान्तरालंकृता प्रोच्चाद्रीन्द्रनिविष्टवारिदघटानीलोत्पलानां स्थली ।
स्रोतोजङ्गलकाननोग्रनगरग्रामाग्रहाराम्बरा नो जाने तरुपल्लवाङ्कुरवती कष्टं क्व याता मही ॥ ५७ ॥

57. Alas, I do not know where that earth (mahī) has gone — that land (sthalī) which was girdled by oceans and vast bodies of water, adorned with intervening islands, and upon whose exceedingly high, majestic mountains rested masses of clouds resembling blue water lilies. This earth, whose vast expanse included streams, wild forests, dense woods, formidable cities, villages, and Brahminical land grants, and which was rich with tree sprouts and tender leaves, has vanished!
