मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-20, verse-46

दग्धं कोपाग्निना सद्यः समर्थस्त्वं वयं न तु ।
दुः खार्जितस्य तपसो व्ययमिच्छामि पार्थिव ॥४६॥
46. dagdhaṃ kopāgninā sadyaḥ samarthastvaṃ vayaṃ na tu .
duḥ khārjitasya tapaso vyayamicchāmi pārthiva.
46. dagdham kopāgninā sadyaḥ samarthaḥ tvam vayam na
tu duḥkhārjitasya tapasaḥ vyayam icchāmi pārthiva
46. My ascetic power (tapas) would be instantly consumed by the fire of anger (if I were to use it). You, O King, are capable (of handling this), but we (ascetics) are not (in that way). (Therefore,) I do not desire the loss of my hard-earned asceticism (tapas).
