मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-20, verse-44

तत्तद्रूपं समास्थाय सिंहेभ-वनचारिणाम् ।
अन्येषाञ्चाल्पकायानामहर्निशमकारणात् ॥४४॥
44. tattadrūpaṃ samāsthāya siṃhebha-vanacāriṇām .
anyeṣāñcālpakāyānāmaharniśamakāraṇāt.

anyeṣām ca alpakāyānām aharniśam akāraṇāt
44. Assuming various forms, such as those of lions, elephants, and other forest-dwelling creatures, as well as small-bodied ones, he causes trouble day and night without any reason.
