महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-135, verse-30

न जानीषे प्रतिज्ञां मे विप्रोत्पत्तिं तथैव च ।
द्रोणं हत्वा किल मया हन्तव्यस्त्वं सुदुर्मते ।
ततस्त्वाहं न हन्म्यद्य द्रोणे जीवति संयुगे ॥३०॥
30. na jānīṣe pratijñāṁ me viprotpattiṁ tathaiva ca ,
droṇaṁ hatvā kila mayā hantavyastvaṁ sudurmate ,
tatastvāhaṁ na hanmyadya droṇe jīvati saṁyuge.
30. na jānīṣe pratijñām me viprotpattim
tathā eva ca Droṇam hatvā kila mayā
hantavyaḥ tvam sudurmate tataḥ tu aham
na hanmi adya Droṇe jīvati saṃyuge
30. sudurmate! tvam me pratijñām tathā eva viprotpattim ca na jānīṣe.
Droṇam hatvā mayā tvam hantavyaḥ kila.
tataḥ tu Droṇe संयुगे jīvati,
aham adya na hanmi.
30. O exceedingly evil-minded one, you know neither my vow nor my Brahmin origin! Indeed, you are to be slain by me after Droṇa has been killed. Therefore, I will not kill you today, while Droṇa is still alive in this battle.
