महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-4, chapter-63, verse-53

एतस्य हि महाबाहो व्रतमेतत्समाहितम् ।
यो ममाङ्गे व्रणं कुर्याच्छोणितं वापि दर्शयेत् ।
अन्यत्र संग्रामगतान्न स जीवेदसंशयम् ॥५३॥
53. etasya hi mahābāho vratametatsamāhitam ,
yo mamāṅge vraṇaṁ kuryācchoṇitaṁ vāpi darśayet ,
anyatra saṁgrāmagatānna sa jīvedasaṁśayam.
53. etasya hi mahābāho vratam etat
samāhitam yaḥ mama aṅge vraṇam kuryāt
śoṇitam vā api darśayet anyatra
saṃgrāmagatān na saḥ jīvet asaṃśayam
53. O mighty-armed one, this vow of his (Uttara's) is firmly established: 'Whoever makes a wound on my body or causes blood to be shed, unless it is in battle, that person will undoubtedly not live.'
