योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-7, chapter-145, verse-1

मुनिरुवाच ।
बहिष्ठैर्बाह्यमेवान्तरन्तस्थैः स्वप्नमिन्द्रियैः ।
जीवो वेत्ति द्वयस्थातितीव्रसंवेगिभिर्द्वयम् ॥ १ ॥

bahiṣṭhairbāhyamevāntarantasthaiḥ svapnamindriyaiḥ ,
jīvo vetti dvayasthātitīvrasaṃvegibhirdvayam 1

bahiṣṭhaiḥ bāhyam eva antar antasthaiḥ svapnam indriyaiḥ .
jīvaḥ vetti dvayastha-atitīvra-saṃvegibhiḥ dvayam || 1 ||

jīvaḥ bahiṣṭhaiḥ bāhyam eva,
antar antasthaiḥ svapnam,
dvayastha-atitīvra-saṃvegibhiḥ dvayam indriyaiḥ vetti .
1. The sage said: The individual soul (jīva) perceives only the external world through its outward-directed senses, and a dream state through its inward-directed senses. Moreover, through senses intensely stimulated in both these states, it comprehends both.
