महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-57, verse-5

मायया निर्जिता देवैरसुरा इति नः श्रुतम् ।
विरोचनश्च शक्रेण मायया निर्जितः सखे ।
मायया चाक्षिपत्तेजो वृत्रस्य बलसूदनः ॥५॥
5. māyayā nirjitā devairasurā iti naḥ śrutam ,
virocanaśca śakreṇa māyayā nirjitaḥ sakhe ,
māyayā cākṣipattejo vṛtrasya balasūdanaḥ.

naḥ śrutam virocanaḥ ca śakreṇa
māyayā nirjitaḥ sakhe māyayā ca
ākṣipat tejaḥ vṛtrasya balasūdanaḥ

5. It has been heard by us that the asuras were defeated by the gods through deceptive means (māyā). And, O friend, Virocana was conquered by Śakra also through illusion (māyā). Moreover, the slayer of Bala (Indra) seized Vṛtra's power through trickery (māyā).
