महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-14, chapter-42, verse-38

अध्यात्मं मन इत्याहुः पञ्चभूतानुचारकम् ।
अधिभूतं च मन्तव्यं चन्द्रमाश्चाधिदैवतम् ॥३८॥
38. adhyātmaṁ mana ityāhuḥ pañcabhūtānucārakam ,
adhibhūtaṁ ca mantavyaṁ candramāścādhidaivatam.
38. adhyātmam manaḥ iti āhuḥ pañcabhūtānucārakam
adhibhūtam ca mantavyam candramāḥ ca adhidaivatam
38. They declare that the mind, which operates among the five elements, is the internal faculty (adhyātma). Furthermore, the object of thought is considered its material aspect (adhibhūtam), and Candramās is its presiding deity.
