महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-56, verse-34

दयिताश्च नरास्ते स्युर्नित्यं पुरुषसत्तम ।
न कोशः परमो ह्यन्यो राज्ञां पुरुषसंचयात् ॥३४॥
34. dayitāśca narāste syurnityaṁ puruṣasattama ,
na kośaḥ paramo hyanyo rājñāṁ puruṣasaṁcayāt.
34. dayitāḥ ca narāḥ te syuḥ nityam puruṣasattama
na kośaḥ paramaḥ hi anyaḥ rājñām puruṣasaṃcayāt
34. puruṣasattama te narāḥ nityam dayitāḥ syuḥ hi
rājñām puruṣasaṃcayāt anyaḥ paramaḥ kośaḥ na
34. O best among men (puruṣa), those men (subjects) should always be cherished. For, truly, there is no other supreme treasury (kośa) for kings than a collection of men.
