महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-56, verse-15

साधारणं द्वयं ह्येतद्दैवमुत्थानमेव च ।
पौरुषं हि परं मन्ये दैवं निश्चित्यमुच्यते ॥१५॥
15. sādhāraṇaṁ dvayaṁ hyetaddaivamutthānameva ca ,
pauruṣaṁ hi paraṁ manye daivaṁ niścityamucyate.
15. sādhāraṇam dvayam hi etat daivam utthānam eva ca
pauruṣam hi param manye daivam niścityam ucyate
15. hi etat daivam utthānam ca dvayam sādhāraṇam eva (bhavati)
hi aham pauruṣam param manye daivam niścityam ucyate
15. Indeed, these two – divine providence (daivam) and human endeavor – are considered equally important. However, I believe that human effort (pauruṣam) is superior, while divine providence (daivam) is said to be a matter of certainty or destiny.
