महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-173, verse-12

न पाणिलाभादधिको लाभः कश्चन विद्यते ।
अपाणित्वाद्वयं ब्रह्मन्कण्टकान्नोद्धरामहे ॥१२॥
12. na pāṇilābhādadhiko lābhaḥ kaścana vidyate ,
apāṇitvādvayaṁ brahmankaṇṭakānnoddharāmahe.
12. na pāṇilābhāt adhikaḥ lābhaḥ kaścana vidyate
apāṇitvāt vayam brahman kaṇṭakān na uddharāmahe
12. kaścana lābhaḥ pāṇilābhāt adhikaḥ na vidyate
brahman vayam apāṇitvāt kaṇṭakān na uddharāmahe
12. No gain exists that is greater than the acquisition of hands. O Brahmin, due to our lack of hands, we are unable to extract thorns.
