The Dashamamshas (tenth divisional chart) are considered to begin from the sign itself when the sign is odd. For even signs, they are considered to begin from its ninth house. The ten guardians of the directions (dikpālāḥ), starting from the east, are Indra, Agni, Yama, and Rakshasa (Nirṛti).
