महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-24, verse-31

प्रधाव्य कुञ्जरास्ते तु भीमसेनगदाहताः ।
पेतुरार्तस्वरं कृत्वा छिन्नपक्षा इवाद्रयः ॥३१॥
31. pradhāvya kuñjarāste tu bhīmasenagadāhatāḥ ,
peturārtasvaraṁ kṛtvā chinnapakṣā ivādrayaḥ.
31. pradhāvya kuñjarāḥ te tu bhīmasena-gadā-ahatāḥ |
petuḥ ārta-svaram kṛtvā chinna-pakṣāḥ iva adrayaḥ
31. te tu bhīmasena-gadā-ahatāḥ kuñjarāḥ pradhāvya
ārta-svaram kṛtvā chinna-pakṣāḥ adrayaḥ iva petuḥ
31. But those elephants, having rushed forth and been struck by Bhimasena's mace, fell to the ground making cries of pain, like mountains whose wings had been clipped.
