महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-261, verse-42

रक्षार्थं तापसानां च राघवो धर्मवत्सलः ।
चतुर्दश सहस्राणि जघान भुवि रक्षसाम् ॥४२॥
42. rakṣārthaṁ tāpasānāṁ ca rāghavo dharmavatsalaḥ ,
caturdaśa sahasrāṇi jaghāna bhuvi rakṣasām.

caturdaśa sahasrāṇi jaghāna bhuvi rakṣasām
42. And for the protection of the ascetics, Rāghava (Rāma), who was devoted to righteousness (dharma), killed fourteen thousand rākṣasas (demons) on the earth.
