योगवासिष्ठः yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-7, chapter-45, verse-23

आपतन्तीं बलादेव पदार्थेष्वरतिं शनैः ।
न शक्नोति निराकर्तुं दृष्टिमत्र च्युतामिव ॥ २३ ॥

āpatantīṃ balādeva padārtheṣvaratiṃ śanaiḥ ,
na śaknoti nirākartuṃ dṛṣṭimatra cyutāmiva 23

23. āpatantīm balāt eva padārtheṣu aratim śanaiḥ |
na śaknoti nirākartum dṛṣṭim atra cyutām iva ||

23. One is unable to repel the aversion (arati) that gradually settles upon objects of the senses, as if by some inherent force, similar to how one cannot easily withdraw a gaze that has once strayed.
