57. It was a place where dogs and crows were seen, suffering, with their necks uplifted and faintly crying for life. It was agitated by the uproar of carrion-eaters fighting eagerly over a single piece of flesh. And it was crowded with dead carrion-eaters who had succumbed to their desire for battle over just one morsel of meat.

57. הגוססים הדלים עוד זקפו גרונם והביטו בצער בעורבים ובכלבים שמסביב. השדה המה מצרחות שדים ואוכלי נבלות שנלחמו על נתח בשר יחיד, וגדוש בנבלותיהם של אוכלי הבשר עצמם שמתו במאבק זה.
