वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-6, verse-55

तथ शितैः शोणितमांसरूषितैर्युगान्तवैश्वानरतुल्यविग्रहैः ।
निशाचराः संपरिवार्य माधवं वरायुधैर्निर्बिभिदुः सहस्रशः ॥५५॥
55. tatha śitaiḥ śoṇitamāṃsarūṣitairyugāntavaiśvānaratulyavigrahaiḥ ,
niśācarāḥ saṃparivārya mādhavaṃ varāyudhairnirbibhiduḥ sahasraśaḥ.

55. Then, the night-roamers (rākṣasas), whose forms resembled the cosmic fire at the end of an eon, having completely surrounded Mādhava, pierced him by thousands with their excellent weapons, which were sharpened and stained with blood and flesh.
