महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-9, chapter-3, verse-34

नष्टचन्द्रा यथा रात्रिः सेनेयं हतनायका ।
नागभग्नद्रुमा शुष्का नदीवाकुलतां गता ॥३४॥
34. naṣṭacandrā yathā rātriḥ seneyaṁ hatanāyakā ,
nāgabhagnadrumā śuṣkā nadīvākulatāṁ gatā.

34. This army, its leader slain, is like a night without a moon. It is distraught, like a dry river whose (bank's) trees have been shattered by elephants.
