महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-116, verse-3

कन्याश्चन्दनचूर्णैश्च लाजैर्माल्यैश्च सर्वशः ।
स्त्रियो बालास्तथा वृद्धाः प्रेक्षकाश्च पृथग्जनाः ।
समभ्ययुः शांतनवं भूतानीव तमोनुदम् ॥३॥

3. Maidens, with sandalwood powder, parched grain, and garlands from all sides, and women, children, the elderly, spectators, and common folk, all approached Śāntanu's son (Bhīṣma) just as living beings approach the dispeller of darkness.
