श्रीवाल्मीकिरुवाच ।
इत्युक्तवत्यथ मुनौ नभसो ननाद वर्षामृताभ्रमिव दुन्दुभिरामरो द्राक् ।
शुक्लीकृताखिलककुब्वदना तुषारवर्षोपमा भुवि पपात च पुष्पवृष्टिः ॥ १ ॥

1. Sri Valmiki said: Then, as the sage finished speaking, a divine drum suddenly resounded from the sky, like a cloud raining nectar. And a shower of flowers fell upon the earth, whitening the faces of all directions and resembling a fall of snow.
