आसृष्टेर्नियतेर्दार्ढ्यादमरत्वं न लभ्यते ।
तपोदानैरतोऽन्यं त्वं वरं वरय सुव्रते ॥ ३६ ॥

The goddess said: 'Due to the strictness of destiny (niyati) since creation, immortality is not obtained even through penance (tapas) and charity (dāna). Therefore, O virtuous one, ask for another boon.'
