महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-200, verse-23

यथा श्रुतिरियं ब्रह्मञ्जीवः किल सनातनः ।
शरीरमध्रुवं लोके सर्वेषां प्राणिनामिह ॥२३॥

23. O Brahmin, just as the scripture (śruti) states, the individual soul (jīva) is indeed eternal (sanātana). However, the body is transient in this world for all living beings.
