महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-200, verse-20

उपर्युपरि लोकस्य सर्वो गन्तुं समीहते ।
यतते च यथाशक्ति न च तद्वर्तते तथा ॥२०॥
20. uparyupari lokasya sarvo gantuṁ samīhate ,
yatate ca yathāśakti na ca tadvartate tathā.

20. Everyone desires to rise higher and higher above the world, and they strive with all their might, but things do not unfold in that manner.
