महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-92, verse-44

जातं जातं च सा पुत्रं क्षिपत्यम्भसि भारत ।
प्रीणामि त्वाहमित्युक्त्वा गङ्गास्रोतस्यमज्जयत् ॥४४॥
44. jātaṁ jātaṁ ca sā putraṁ kṣipatyambhasi bhārata ,
prīṇāmi tvāhamityuktvā gaṅgāsrotasyamajjayat.
44. jātam jātam ca sā putram kṣipati ambhasi bhārata
prīṇāmi tvā aham iti uktvā gaṅgā-srotasi amajjayat
44. And she, O Bhārata, each child that was born, would throw into the water. Saying 'I please you,' she would immerse it in the current of the Gaṅgā.
