महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-59, verse-3

तेऽमरारिविनाशाय सर्वलोकहिताय च ।
अवतेरुः क्रमेणेमां महीं स्वर्गाद्दिवौकसः ॥३॥
3. te'marārivināśāya sarvalokahitāya ca ,
avateruḥ krameṇemāṁ mahīṁ svargāddivaukasaḥ.
3. te amarārivināśāya sarvalokahitāya ca avateruḥ
krameṇa imām mahīm svargāt divaukasaḥ
3. They, the dwellers of heaven, descended gradually from Svarga onto this earth for the destruction of the enemies of the gods and for the welfare of all worlds.
