महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-218, verse-41

असकृद्भग्नसंकल्पाः सुराश्च बहुशः कृताः ।
भयाद्रणं परित्यज्य शक्रमेवाभिशिश्रियुः ॥४१॥
41. asakṛdbhagnasaṁkalpāḥ surāśca bahuśaḥ kṛtāḥ ,
bhayādraṇaṁ parityajya śakramevābhiśiśriyuḥ.
41. asakṛt bhagnasaṅkalpāḥ surāḥ ca bahuśaḥ kṛtāḥ
bhayāt raṇam parityajya śakram eva abhiśiśriyuḥ
41. Their resolves repeatedly shattered, and having been frequently overcome, the gods abandoned the battle out of fear and sought refuge only in Indra.
