योगवासिष्ठः       yogavāsiṣṭhaḥ - book-3, chapter-16, verse-24

विप्रा ऊचुः ।
तपोजपयमैर्देवि समस्ताः सिद्धसिद्धयः ।
संप्राप्यन्तेऽमरत्वं तु न कदाचन लभ्यते ॥ २४ ॥
viprā ūcuḥ ,
tapojapayamairdevi samastāḥ siddhasiddhayaḥ ,
saṃprāpyante'maratvaṃ tu na kadācana labhyate 24
24. viprāḥ ūcuḥ | tapaḥ japa yamaiḥ devi samastāḥ siddha
siddhayaḥ | samprāpyante amaratvaṃ tu na kadācana labhyate ||
24. devi tapaḥ japa yamaiḥ samastāḥ siddha siddhayaḥ
samprāpyante tu amaratvaṃ kadācana na labhyate
24. The brahmins said: "O Goddess, all perfections (siddhi) and accomplishments are attained through ascetic practices (tapas), chanting (japa), and self-restraint (yama). However, immortality is never achieved."
