तृतीयमष्टमस्थानमायुःस्थानां द्वयं द्विज ।
मारकं तद्व्ययस्थानं द्वितीयं सप्तमं तथा ॥२॥

O twice-born (dvija), the third and eighth houses are considered the two houses of longevity (āyuḥsthāna). The second and seventh houses are the death-inflicting (māraka) houses, which are also the twelfth houses from those longevity houses respectively.
