तत्किं मुधा धारयसे सन्तोषं कुरुते यदि ।
कार्यनिष्पादकं राज्यं करणं कर्तुरिष्यते ॥३६॥

36. tatkiṃ mudhā dhārayase santoṣaṃ kurute yadi .
kāryaniṣpādakaṃ rājyaṃ karaṇaṃ karturiṣyate.

tat kim mudhā dhārayase santoṣam kurute yadi
kāryaniṣpādakam rājyam karaṇam kartuḥ iṣyate

Therefore, if [the king] merely finds contentment (santoṣa), then why do you uselessly maintain [this system]? A kingdom (rājya) that accomplishes tasks is desired as an instrument (karaṇa) for the one who acts (kartṛ).
