महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-46, verse-38

नाहं पादौ धावयिष्ये कदाचिद्यावत्स्थितः पार्थ इत्यल्पबुद्धिः ।
व्रतं तस्यैतत्सर्वदा शक्रसूनो कच्चित्त्वया निहतः सोऽद्य कर्णः ॥३८॥
38. nāhaṁ pādau dhāvayiṣye kadāci;dyāvatsthitaḥ pārtha ityalpabuddhiḥ ,
vrataṁ tasyaitatsarvadā śakrasūno; kaccittvayā nihataḥ so'dya karṇaḥ.
38. na aham pādau dhāvayiṣye kadācit yāvat
sthitaḥ pārthaḥ iti alpabuddhiḥ |
vratam tasya etat sarvadā śakrasūno
kaccit tvayā nihataḥ saḥ adya karṇaḥ
38. śakrasūno,
kaccit tvayā adya saḥ karṇaḥ nihataḥ? yāvat alpabuddhiḥ pārthaḥ sthitaḥ iti aham pādau kadācit na dhāvayiṣye,
etat tasya vratam sarvadā.
38. O son of Indra (Arjuna), I hope that Karṇa, that foolish one, has been killed by you today, he who constantly swore: "I will never wash my feet as long as Pārtha is alive!".
