महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-238, verse-48

नोत्सहे जीवितुमहं त्वद्विहीनो नरर्षभ ।
प्रायोपविष्टस्तु नृप राज्ञां हास्यो भविष्यसि ॥४८॥
48. notsahe jīvitumahaṁ tvadvihīno nararṣabha ,
prāyopaviṣṭastu nṛpa rājñāṁ hāsyo bhaviṣyasi.
48. na utsahe jīvitum aham tvat vihīnaḥ nararṣabha
prāyopaviṣṭaḥ tu nṛpa rājñām hāsyaḥ bhaviṣyasi
48. O best among men (nararṣabha), I cannot endure living without you. However, O King, if you were to undertake a fast unto death (prāya), you would become a laughingstock for other kings.
