महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-6, verse-44

यथा तैलक्षयाद्दीपः प्रम्लानिमुपगच्छति ।
तथा कर्मक्षयाद्दैवं प्रम्लानिमुपगच्छति ॥४४॥
44. yathā tailakṣayāddīpaḥ pramlānimupagacchati ,
tathā karmakṣayāddaivaṁ pramlānimupagacchati.

tathā karmakṣayāt daivam pramlānim upagacchati

44. Just as a lamp fades away due to the exhaustion of oil, so too, destiny (daivam) diminishes due to the exhaustion of action (karma).
