महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-6, verse-35

बलिर्वैरोचनिर्बद्धो धर्मपाशेन दैवतैः ।
विष्णोः पुरुषकारेण पातालशयनः कृतः ॥३५॥
35. balirvairocanirbaddho dharmapāśena daivataiḥ ,
viṣṇoḥ puruṣakāreṇa pātālaśayanaḥ kṛtaḥ.

35. Bali, the son of Virocana, was bound by the gods with the noose of natural law (dharma). Through the powerful agency of Viṣṇu, he was made to reside in the netherworld.
