महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-44, verse-17

असपिण्डा च या मातुरसगोत्रा च या पितुः ।
इत्येतामनुगच्छेत तं धर्मं मनुरब्रवीत् ॥१७॥
17. asapiṇḍā ca yā māturasagotrā ca yā pituḥ ,
ityetāmanugaccheta taṁ dharmaṁ manurabravīt.

etām anugaccheta tam dharmam manuḥ abravīt
17. manuḥ tam dharmam abravīt iti yā mātuḥ asapiṇḍā
ca yā pituḥ asagotrā ca etām anugaccheta
17. Manu declared this natural law (dharma): one should marry a woman who is neither a close relative (asapiṇḍā) on the mother's side nor of the same clan (asagotrā) on the father's side.
