महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-44, verse-14

यस्यास्तु न भवेद्भ्राता पिता वा भरतर्षभ ।
नोपयच्छेत तां जातु पुत्रिकाधर्मिणी हि सा ॥१४॥

14. O best among the Bhāratas, one should never marry a girl who has no brother or father, for she would certainly be considered an appointed daughter (putrikādharmiṇī).
