महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-104, verse-36

एकैकमेषां निष्पिंषञ्शिष्टेषु निपुणं चरेत् ।
न च शक्तोऽपि मेधावी सर्वानेवारभेन्नृपः ॥३६॥

36. ekaikameṣāṁ niṣpiṁṣañśiṣṭeṣu nipuṇaṁ caret ,
na ca śakto'pi medhāvī sarvānevārabhennṛpaḥ.

36. Crushing each one of these [enemies] individually, one should deal skillfully with the remaining. And even a powerful, intelligent king should not attempt to engage all [enemies] at once.
