शिवात्प्राक्कारणात्पूर्वं चिच्चेत्यकलनोन्मुखी ।
उदेति सौम्याज्जलधेः पयःस्पन्दो मनागिव ॥ १८ ॥

18. Before the primary cause manifests, from that supreme, auspicious reality (brahman), consciousness (cit), inclining towards the apprehension of the knowable, arises just like a subtle ripple of water (payaḥspanda) from a calm ocean.
