वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-5, chapter-24, verse-37

नाजानाज्जीवतीं रामः स मां लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः ।
जानन्तौ तौ न कुर्यातां नोर्व्यां हि मम मार्गणम् ॥३७॥
37. nājānājjīvatīṃ rāmaḥ sa māṃ lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ ,
jānantau tau na kuryātāṃ norvyāṃ hi mama mārgaṇam.
37. na ajānāt jīvatīm rāmaḥ saḥ mām lakṣmaṇapūrvajaḥ
jānantau tau na kuryātām na urvyām hi mama mārgaṇam

37. Rāma, the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa, did not know that I was alive. If they (Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa) knew, they would surely search for me on Earth.
