वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-2, chapter-98, verse-9

स यदा पुष्पितो भूत्वा फलानि न विदर्शयेत् ।
स तां नानुभवेत् प्रीतिं यस्य हेतोः प्रभावितः ॥९॥
9. sa yadā puṣpito bhūtvā phalāni na vidarśayet ,
sa tāṃ nānubhavet prītiṃ yasya hetoḥ prabhāvitaḥ.

tām na anubhavet prītim yasya hetoḥ prabhāvitaḥ

9. When that [tree], having blossomed, does not yield fruits, the person who nurtured it will not experience the satisfaction for the sake of which it was brought into being.
