महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-6, chapter-44, verse-19

तत्र तत्र नरौघाणां क्रोशतामितरेतरम् ।
शुश्रुवुर्दारुणा वाचः प्रेतानामिव भारत ॥१९॥
19. tatra tatra naraughāṇāṁ krośatāmitaretaram ,
śuśruvurdāruṇā vācaḥ pretānāmiva bhārata.

19. O Bhārata, here and there they heard the terrible cries of crowds of men lamenting to one another, like those of departed spirits.
