महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-10, verse-44

ततः प्रनष्टे देवेन्द्रे ब्रह्महत्याभयार्दिते ।
भूमिः प्रध्वस्तसंकाशा निर्वृक्षा शुष्ककानना ।
विच्छिन्नस्रोतसो नद्यः सरांस्यनुदकानि च ॥४४॥

bhūmiḥ pradhvastasaṁkāśā nirvṛkṣā śuṣkakānanā ,
vicchinnasrotaso nadyaḥ sarāṁsyanudakāni ca.

44. Then, when Indra, the lord of the devas, had vanished, tormented by the fear of brahmanicide, the earth appeared devastated, treeless, and its forests became dry. The rivers had severed their streams, and the lakes were devoid of water.
