महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-240, verse-36

न मृतो जयते शत्रूञ्जीवन्भद्राणि पश्यति ।
मृतस्य भद्राणि कुतः कौरवेय कुतो जयः ।
न कालोऽद्य विषादस्य भयस्य मरणस्य वा ॥३६॥
36. na mṛto jayate śatrūñjīvanbhadrāṇi paśyati ,
mṛtasya bhadrāṇi kutaḥ kauraveya kuto jayaḥ ,
na kālo'dya viṣādasya bhayasya maraṇasya vā.
36. na mṛtaḥ jayate śatrūn jīvan bhadrāṇi
paśyati mṛtasya bhadrāṇi kutaḥ
kauraveya kutaḥ jayaḥ na kālaḥ adya
viṣādasya bhayasya maraṇasya vā
36. A dead person does not conquer enemies; a living person experiences prosperity. O Kaurava, how can there be prosperity for the dead? How can there be victory? Now is not the time for sorrow, fear, or death.
