महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-240, verse-35

दुर्योधनं निशान्ते च कर्णो वैकर्तनोऽब्रवीत् ।
स्मयन्निवाञ्जलिं कृत्वा पार्थिवं हेतुमद्वचः ॥३५॥
35. duryodhanaṁ niśānte ca karṇo vaikartano'bravīt ,
smayannivāñjaliṁ kṛtvā pārthivaṁ hetumadvacaḥ.

smayan iva añjaliṃ kṛtvā pārthivaṃ hetumat vacaḥ
35. At dawn, Karna, the son of Vikartana, addressed King Duryodhana with significant words, as if smiling and having offered a respectful gesture (añjali).
