महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-218, verse-49

श्रीजुष्टः पञ्चमीं स्कन्दस्तस्माच्छ्रीपञ्चमी स्मृता ।
षष्ठ्यां कृतार्थोऽभूद्यस्मात्तस्मात्षष्ठी महातिथिः ॥४९॥
49. śrījuṣṭaḥ pañcamīṁ skandastasmācchrīpañcamī smṛtā ,
ṣaṣṭhyāṁ kṛtārtho'bhūdyasmāttasmātṣaṣṭhī mahātithiḥ.
49. śrījuṣṭaḥ pañcamīm skandaḥ tasmāt śrīpañcamī smṛtā |
ṣaṣṭhyām kṛtārthaḥ abhūt yasmāt tasmāt ṣaṣṭhī mahātithiḥ
49. Because Skanda was endowed with glory (śrī) on the fifth day, therefore the fifth day is remembered as Śrīpañcamī. And because he achieved his purpose on the sixth day, therefore the sixth day is a great festival (mahātithi).
